The Motherland

Ah, I had such a wonderful time in Austin last weekend. My brother's wedding was the most awesome I've ever seen!

The Tex-Mex was wonderful (ate at Guerro's on Congress). I spent a few hours in Lampassas and ate a burger at Storm's. I'd forgotten how Texas also seems to have the best burgers. Oh, and having fried okra instead of fries was devine! While in Dallas I enjoyed some good BBQ complete with jalepeno's on the side. The lady I ordered from was impressed. I told her, when you get only home a few times a year, you've got to do it all the way!

One thing that scared me tho, was hearing 2 (two) people say they felt that Bush was a very honest president. Apparently a large rock has fallen on our beloved state and many people have chosen to live there. But that's another tribe...

It was hot and muggy as hell. The capitol is still beautiful. Oh, and check out my friends in the band, www.dreamtrybe.com. I got to hear them play just off 6th st. Mon night. It was good to hear them again and they have a new album coming out soon.

Hope we can all get together some day soon.

shut up... shut up... shut up... I'm jealous....

    LOL!

Dammit you've made me crave Taqueria la tapa tiesta (sp?) from Houston... the craving is more of a throbing pain, mormaly it's a background ache... dammit! :-)

About the pres... remember Texans loved him before he was in office so they were pretty biased... and California in the metropoetan areas and very leftist, go outside those areas and you're in Pro-Bush country. Don't belive me? Go to some of the less tourist infested areas of the Sierras during election time, Bush Cheney posters seem to dominate. Call someone a democrat out there and it's fightin words, ok so that alst one is more of joke but it does carry some credence.

if you're talking about the taqueria on richmond st. by woodhead, that's Tqueria La Tapatia. One of the best, but last time I wnt home they remodelded it and raised the prices, same thing happened with my home taqueria La Jaliscience.

wasn't bush born in connetecuit anyway?

you're talkin about the neighborhood I grew up in. You should see it now, the fucking yuppies have townhoused the whole hood, and completely consumed 4th ward.....sigh, could've seen it coming a mile away......and now, with all the 3story buildings, you can

I never loved Bush. As a matter of fact, I left the state after the fuzznut got elected governor. There went the neighbourhood, so to speak.

The bad thing is, he gives Texans a bad name. Everyone else assumes all Texans are bible-thumping conservatives who don't know the meanings of words over 2 syllables.

I just say I am from Austin and that seems to negate the assumed doofus factor a little.

I was back in Austin last weekend, too, but I'm regretting that I definitely didn't eat enough. I didn't even go to Hilbert's, which is like, my favorite food ever.

Been to Threadgill's, but not Hilbert's. What's the scoop.

I actually just got back from there again. I had a working trip there, my first in nearly 4 years with United. I awoke Tue morning to a wonderful thunderstorm. Oh, how I miss those.

Hilbert's is a family-owned fast food joint on Lamar at 34th. Great burgers, milkshakes, and fries, and absolutely the best onion rings I've ever had.

The weather was typical while I was there. You know -- 100 degrees, humid, and the occasional golf ball-sized hail.
